Dalkon Shield Litigation

In the early to mid-1980’s Mike represented hundreds of women who suffered infertility issues as a result of use of the Dalkon Shield. Mike was lead counsel in two bellweather cases that went to trial and resulted in jury verdicts of compensatory and punitive damages: Stremke v. A.H. Robins, $250,000 in compensatory damages and $1,500,000 in punitive damages (June 1983); and Hahn v. A.H. Robins, $250,000 in compensatory damages and $500,000 in punitive damages (December 1983).  After the cases were assigned to Judge Miles Lord, in 1984, the A. H. Robins Co. entered into a settlement on behalf of all remaining 198 clients for $38 million. Just as important to the monetary settlement, Mike led preparation of a public brochure which categorized and listed all discovery that was obtained during the course of the litigation. Discovery was provided without charge to any attorney who requested it.
